10 Free Pattern Recap - Crochet Earwarmers

Brr... this cold weather sure is perfect for making earwarmers! I know I love my earwarmers most when I have my hair up and don't want to take it down to put on a hat. It's so nice to be able to throw on an earwarmer and head out the door. So here's a recap of some of the most popular FREE crochet patterns across the web.

Here's the individual patterns (going clockwise starting at the top left):

1) Julianna by Jessie at Home: A colorful way to make a statement!

2) Sleek and Skinny Ear Warmer by Cre8tion Crochet: Want a more basic headband that still has some texture and detail to it? This one is perfect for you!

3) All Grown Up Earwarmer by moogly: Colorful! Stylish! Warm! Comfy! What more could you ask for in a free pattern?

4) Knotted Headband by All About Ami: Such a great pattern for everyday use! It's super comfortable and easy to modify if needed.

5) Easiest Headwrap EVER by Frayed Knot: One of the newest favorites for earwarmers to hit the crochet community! Great reviews too!

6) Chunky Earwarmer by Mill Run Mama: Great way to use up some leftover chunky yarn! The chunky yarn gives a different look than the typical worsted weight yarn.

7) Moebius Headband Earwarmer by PD Designs: Moebius headbands are a very popular style. There are a few basic patterns out there, but this one adds some new flair with the textured style.

8) Knitted-Look Flower Headband by Classic Inez: Can't knit? Perfect! You can crochet this knit-look earwarmer without the knit technique!

9) Cozy Flowered Headband by Melmaria Designs: Perfect for beginners! Uses basic stitches, but looks great!

10) Bow Headband by People Webs: Free and has a photo tutorial? Yeah, that's right! How great!? And it's cute too!

FREE PATTERN - Cross Bow Legwarmers

As I was in need of legwarmers, I started to sketch ideas out for what I wanted. I remembered back to my X's and O's hat and loved that stitch. So I started playing with it some more and found this sequence really cute. I hope you enjoy the pattern as it can work with any size, you just have to adjust it to your needs.

Cross Bow Legwarmers

Supplies:
Lighter worsted weight yarn (such as Caron Simply Soft)
I/9 5.5mm hook
2 small buttons to make bows removable
Yarn needle

Gauge:
8 DC x 3 rows = 2 x 2 in square

Not extremely important for this.

Abbreviations:
CH = Chain
ST = Stitch
SLST = Slip stitch
SC = Single crochet
HDC = Half-double crochet
DC = Double crochet

Pattern:
Begin with top band:
Row 1: CH 6. SC in 2nd CH from hook and each across. (5)
Row 2: CH 1, turn. SC in front loop of each ST across. (5)
Repeat row 2 until the band would fit snugly around calf.

Size estimates (# divisible by 3):
Child’s calf – 30 rows
Small adult - 39 rows

SLST to join beginning and ending STs to form a band.

Round 1: CH 1.  SC in the end of each row (For 39 rows for the band, SC 39 - divisible by 3).
SLST in 1st SC.
Round 2: CH 3.  DC in next ST, DC in same ST as CH-3 (going behind 1st DC).
*DC in next ST. Skip 1 ST. DC in next ST.  DC in skipped ST (going behind previous DC).*
Repeat from * to * around. Join w/ SLST to top of CH-3.
Repeat round 2 until the length desired is reached. I like to use 12 rounds for small adult.

Finishing band: CH 1. SC in each ST around. Join w/ SLST to 1st SC.
Repeat finishing band for 2 more rounds.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Bow:
Row 1: CH 26. Join w/ SLST to 1st CH.
Row 2: CH 1. SC in same ST and each ST around. (26)
Repeat row 2 for 4 more rounds.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Center of bow:
CH 7. HDC in 2nd CH from hook and each across.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Wrap the “Center bow” around the middle of the bow and sew together using long tail.
Continue to use long tail to sew the button on the back of the bow, or secure the bow directly to the legwarmer.
Weave in ends.

Attach the bow with the button in a place between the band and body of the legwarmer. Or find a place in that area where the button fits snugly.

Repeat the process for the other legwarmer.

Designing more and more...

I have been away for a little bit now. I have been so busy and it has been difficult to find the time to make the post, so here's what's been happening:

1) The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Inspired Cowls are a hit on Etsy! I have been crocheting my fingers away with making these cowls. I am so happy that I have gotten great reviews from the customers who have ordered them.

2) I have 2 new patterns in the works.

The first is the Cross Bow Legwarmers. It is currently in testing right now and will be released next week as a free pattern! :)
The second is a Spiked Beanie/Slouch. I have the adult and toddler size worked out. I am still trying to work out the rest of the sizes, but I have a feeling this one will also be a free pattern. I hope to get it into testing soon. :)

Hopefully everyone enjoys the new patterns when they are released! I am very excited for them and hope everyone else is as well. I still have a few more ideas to design yet.

I contemplated doing more with my Heartbeat line, but not many people have seemed interested in purchasing the patterns I have designed, so until I receive a few more purchases, I will not be continuing immediately with that design.

I will post when the new patterns are released. :)
