FREE PATTERN - Rose Flower

After making my daughter a sunhat, she requested a flower on the hat. So I played around and created this beauty! It's hard to see with the white. I'll make up another one soon.

What you need:

  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn
  • I hook

Abbreviations:
  • ST = Stitch
  • SLST = Slip stitch
  • CH = Chain
  • SC = Single crochet
  • HDC = Half-double crochet
  • DC = Double crochet
  • TR = Triple crochet

Pattern:

30 Foundationless Single Crochet  or CH 31, SC in 2nd CH from hook and each across.

CH 1, turn.

HDC 4 in 1st ST. *SLST in next ST. HDC 5 in next ST.* Repeat from * to * once more. (2 small petals)

*SLST in next ST. DC 5 in next ST.* Repeat from * to * 4 more times. (5 medium petals)

*SLST in next ST. TR 5 in next ST.* Repeat from * to * 6 more times. (7 large petals)

SLST in last ST. Fasten off.  Leave a long tail to sew flower together.

Roll the flower up and around starting with the small petals in the middle of flower. Secure the flower together by weaving the long tail through the base of the flower. Fasten off.

FREE PATTERN - Customize your Flip-flops

Customize your Flip-Flops

I've had this pair of flip-flops laying around for probably 4 years. They have only been worn once because the straps are so uncomfortable. Then I had a total light bulb moment... why don't I crochet around the straps to make them more comfortable? Duh!

So I grabbed some light blue worsted weight yarn and an H hook.

Step 1: Knot the yarn around the strap.

Step 2: Put the hook through the loop. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

Step 3: Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 40 SC.

Step 4: SC2tog on each side of the strap.
*Place hook under right side of strap, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
Place hook under left side of strap, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
Yarn over and pull through all loops.

Step 5: Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 40 SC. Fasten off.

Step 6: Place hook through 2 loops in the front of the sandal. Pull a slip knot through. Turn.

Step 7:  Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 10 SC. Fasten off.

To add even more accenting, I wanted to have a flower. So for this you'll either want to sew the flower directly on or use a button to fasten it on with. I chose to do the button.

You can view the flower pattern HERE.

The final product is so comfortable and I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I have poison right now, so I won't dread you with those photos. I'll update with a real photo when I'm healed up. :)
