This is what I came up with:
What you need:
- H hook
- Cotton yarn (about 1.5 oz)
Abbreviations:
- ST = Stitch
- SLST = Slip Stitch
- CH = Chain
- SC = Single Crochet
- DC = Double Crochet
- V-ST = (DC, CH 1, DC) in one ST
Pattern:
Row 1: CH 28. SC in 2nd CH from hook.*CH 1. Skip 1 ST. SC in next ST.* Repeat from * to * across.
Row 2: CH 1, turn. SC in 1st SC. SC in CH-1 space. *V-ST in next CH-1 space. SC in next CH-1 space.* Repeat from * to * across. SC in last SC.
Row 3: CH 1, turn. SC in 2 SC. *CH 1. Skip DC. SC in CH-1 space. CH 1. Skip DC. SC in SC.* Repeat from * to * across. SC in last SC.
Row 4: CH 1, turn. SC in 2 SC. *Skip 1 ST. V-ST in SC. Skip 1 ST. SC in SC.* Repeat from * to * across. SC in last SC.
Rows 5-21: Repeat row 3 & 4, ending with row 3.
Round 1: CH 1, turn. SC in 1st SC. SC in each CH-1 space and SC across. 2 SC in last ST of row. Work 1 SC into the side of each row. 2 SC in the side of the last row. SC in the base of each CH across. 2 SC in the base of the last CH. Work 1 SC into the side of each row. Join w/ SLST to the 1st SC.
Round 2: CH 1, turn. 2 SC in 1st ST. SC in each ST across. 2 SC in each of the 2 corner STs. SC in each ST across. 2 SC in each of the 2 corner STs. SC in each ST across. CH 12. SC in next ST and each across. 2 SC in last ST. Join w/ SLST to the 1st SC.
