FREE PATTERN - Customize your Flip-flops

Customize your Flip-Flops

I've had this pair of flip-flops laying around for probably 4 years. They have only been worn once because the straps are so uncomfortable. Then I had a total light bulb moment... why don't I crochet around the straps to make them more comfortable? Duh!

So I grabbed some light blue worsted weight yarn and an H hook.

Step 1: Knot the yarn around the strap.

Step 2: Put the hook through the loop. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

Step 3: Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 40 SC.

Step 4: SC2tog on each side of the strap.
*Place hook under right side of strap, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
Place hook under left side of strap, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
Yarn over and pull through all loops.

Step 5: Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 40 SC. Fasten off.

Step 6: Place hook through 2 loops in the front of the sandal. Pull a slip knot through. Turn.

Step 7:  Single crochet (SC) around the strap.
*Place hook under the strap. Yarn over, pull yarn to the front of strap.
                  Yarn over, pull through.

Repeat to tightly fill the strap. I did 10 SC. Fasten off.

To add even more accenting, I wanted to have a flower. So for this you'll either want to sew the flower directly on or use a button to fasten it on with. I chose to do the button.

You can view the flower pattern HERE.

The final product is so comfortable and I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I have poison right now, so I won't dread you with those photos. I'll update with a real photo when I'm healed up. :)
