Free Pattern - Star Hexagon Dishcloth

I promised more free patterns, so here's one I recently came up with.

Star Hexagon Dishcloth

Materials Needed:
H hook
Cotton WW yarn

Finished Item size: 7 1/2 inches without loop

Abbreviations:
CH = Chain
ST = Stitch
SLST = Slip Stitch
YO = Yarn over
SC = Single crochet
DC = Double crochet

Star cluster = YO, insert hook in ST, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, insert hook in same ST, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through 3 loops.

Pattern:

Round 1:     Begin with magic circle (or CH 3, join w/ SLST to form circle), CH 2, YO, insert hook in same ST, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through 2 loops [counts as 1st Star cluster], CH 2, *Star cluster, CH 2.* Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Join w/ SLST to 1st Star cluster. FO.

Round 2:     Join w/ new color to any CH-2 space. CH 3, (2 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in CH-2 space. (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in each CH-2 space around. Join w/ SLST to CH-3.

Round 3:     CH 4, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in CH-2 space, CH 1, *DC between 3DC clusters, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1.*
Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Join w/ SLST to 3rd CH of beginning CH.

Round 4:     CH 3, DC in CH-1 space before 3DC cluster, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, *2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1.*
Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Join w/ SLST to CH-3.

Round 5:     CH 4, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, *DC in CH-1 space between 2DC clusters, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1.*
Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Join w/ SLST to 3rd CH of beginning CH.

Round 6:     CH 3, DC in CH-1 space before 3DC cluster, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, 2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, *2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, (3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC) in next CH-2 space, CH 1, 3 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, 2 DC in CH-1 space, CH 1.*
Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Join w/ SLST to CH-3. FO.

Round 7:     Join w/ SLST to middle DC of 3DC cluster to the right of any corner. CH 1, SC in same ST, SC in next ST, 2 SC in CH-2 space, SC in next 2 STs.
CH 10. Turn work. SLST in 1st SC of the round.
CH 1, Turn work. 20 SC in CH-10 loop. SC in next ST of Round 6. SC in each DC and CH space, placing 2 SC in each CH-2 space. Join w/ SLST to 1st SC of the loop.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

  1. Hi. This star is 5 sided, not 6, so hexagon is not correct in the name.

    1. Haha. That's a great catch! I'm horrible at geometry. Someone told me it was a hexagon and I went with it. I'll work on changing it shortly.

  2. Oh, we all make mistakes. I keep in the back of my mind that snowflakes and crystals are always 6 sided!
